Borderway Bidders Race for Classic Cars!
1 November 2014
It could be said that an immaculate 1987 Porsche 911 Supersport Targa leads the way in the race to sale day. But in the region of 20 bid winning motors have been lining up on the grid for the auction in 5 days time, so as far as excitement goes, the race is still open
From the Porsche to a 1970 Triumph Herald the auction has a classic to suit every pocket. The limited edition Porsche is finished in Grand Prix White and shows 102,000 miles, with a fresh MOT. A 1951 Riley RMB could very well be the connoisseur’s choice of winning entry. Graeme Hall, of H&H adds “Perhaps not ready for the concours, the big Riley is still a really nice example of the marque, with a light blue badge signifying the more powerful 2.5 engine. It’s well presented in black with good eye-catching chromework, and has a guide price is between six and seven thousand.
Other winners include a Mercedes E 280, 6-door Limousine - an actually factory-built model – these classics are quite unusual and obviously sought after for parties and events.
Smaller, but perhaps more heart-stopping in terms of performance is a Mazda MX5 Convertible. Only 18,000 miles and in British Racing Green with Tan Leather and Tan Hood. It is the perfect British Sports Car, in spite of its Japanese origins!
At the restoration project end is a beautiful 1965 Vanden Plas 4 Litre R – no ordinary saloon this – it was powered by a Rolls Royce Engine.
Graeme adds: “She is a rare old thing and a great restoration project for someone. For all cars of this vintage, the restoration prospects are excellent. Most are pre-computer, and are backed up by a huge network for parts for all of these old cars. Keeping them on the road has developed into a multi million pound industry in the UK now.”
The auction also features over 100 lots of automobilia which include various headlights, miscellaneous car parts, various vintage motor badges and some old enamel signs, so its worth coming, if only to spend your pocket money!
And for the less speed-conscious, there is a fine example of a Motor-Powered Bicycle with some excellent accessories to keep it going.
The auction starts at 11 am on Saturday 15 November in the Exhibition Hall at Borderway, Carlisle. Viewing is taking place from 2-4pm on Friday 14 November and morning of the sale from 9am.
